Dick "Hopalong" Cassidy |
|||||
Known as "Hoppy" to those who frequent WMA festivals, Dick Cassidy, of Ballwin, Missouri, joined the Western Music Association in 1991. His belief in the organization was so strong that, soon after joining, he became one of the organization's first Life Members.
For years, as long as his health would permit, he videotaped as many of the workshops, showcases and concerts as possible, with his own equipment and at his own expense, for the exclusive use of the organization. These important tapes have been carefully annotated and he has donated them to the WMA's archives. They contain an immeasurably important record of the history and growth of the organization.
For a number of years he was a contributor to the Western Music Association's journal, The Advocate, informing readers about Western music events taking place in the mid-west. He has been especially active in recruiting new members and has enthusiastically promoted the WMA at every concert, festival and gathering he has attended since 1991. Although not a registered performer, he is one of the organization's best-known and most appreciated members.
