Alvin Davis

Alvin Davis grew up in Post, Texas, with a hand windup Victrola and early cowboy and Western records for entertainment. As a boy, he  first saw the Sons of the Pioneers at the Texas Centennial in 1936. That's when he became a real fan, and it was the start of his life-long effort to perpetuate cowboy and Western music.

Alvin was the founder, president and producer of the World's Original All-Junior Rodeo in Post, Texas, and the rodero had Western dances after every performance. He tried to make sure that all of his rodeos were followed by dances.  In 1987, he participated in the first cowboy poetry gathering in Texas in Alpine, and this inspired him to organize his own event in Lubbock to present and promote cowboy music and culture. This event became the annual National Cowboy Symposium & Celebration, and it has grown to become the largest such event in the nation.
Alvin has also helped others who were attempting to learn how to organize cowboy events, and has helped at least 16 of these events get started in California, New Mexico, Indianna, Colorado and Texas. He has also worked with a long list of organizations related to Western heritage, and has served as the President of the Western Music Association.
