The Riders In The Sky

Ranger Doug, Too Slim and Woody Paul have been performing together as Riders in the Sky for over fifteen years. Ranger Doug, country music historian and Western music enthusiast, gathered a couple of friends to harmonize with him in a Nashville night club in 1977. The event proved so enjoyable that by early 1978 the group had christened itself Riders in the Sky, Too Slim having selected the band's name from an old Sons of the Pioneers album. Each member of this group has his own special talents: Ranger Doug, the group's guitarist, provides his remarkable yodeling talents and smooth baritone lead vocals; Too Slim, bassist and master of characters adds his varmint dances and comedy skits; Woody Paul plays his fiddle and entertains with his rope tricks; and together they perform exquisite three-part harmonies. As performers and as song writers, Douglas B. Green, Fred LaBour and Woody Chrisman have devoted more than 15 years to advancing tradition of true Western music. In addition to one-of-a-kind albums and eagerly anticipated live performances, the Riders have hosted their own weekly award-winning radio program ("Riders' Radio Theater") since 1988 on National Public Radio across America, have starred in their own weekly Saturday morning children's program on CBS-TV, and are long time members of the legendary Grand Ole Opry.
